Game 3 Strikers 1
Elkgrove Illusion 0

Championship Strikers 2
Manteca Rangers 1

The Strikers travelled to Reno and won all their games in only their second Class 1 tournament.
The Championship game was a cracker between two well matched teams with both teams going hard throughout the game. Manteca got a dream start only 3 minutes into the game and scored from a penalty kick after an attacker was fouled in the box. The Strikers never panicked and mounted several attacks before Jessica Parque broke through the defence and equalised before the half. Coralie Ringuette, Vanessa Kibblewhite, Fiona Benjamin and Crystal Patten worked hard up front and were unlucky not to score. The Strikers defence was superb all weekend with Jordan Kotlar and Frances DeFreitas stopping anything that came down the middle and Skye Hammer and Sara Acquisti playing great in the fullback positions.

The second half was equally exciting with great play by halfbacks Fiona Benjamin, Katelyn Brown, Brianna Falk, Lina Miller, Taylor Russell, Cory Rhodes and Sarah Walley. Madison Kavanaugh in goal was as cool as a breeze and made a great save off a corner kick by smothering a loose ball in the square. The winning goal came midway through the second half and was again scored by Parque who was a nightmare for opposing defenders all weekend. The Strikers defence shut down any further chances and held on for a deserving win.

Final score Strikers 2 - Manteca 1

ASSOCIATION CUP

UPDATES

PUSC Pacifica Pioneers U11 Girls Advance to the Quarter Finals in the Northern California Association Cup

The Pacifica Pioneers dominated their bracket this weekend in the preliminary games for the Northern California CYSA Association Cup, and advance to quarter finals with only one goal scored against them.

Pacifica Pioneers 2
River City Arsenal 0

The Pioneers scored early in this game, with forwards Maren Smith and Emma Wilson each putting one in the net. Hayley Chawke was a wall on defense and sent brilliant crosses into the box. The Pioneers defense held off the Arsenal in the second half, with Shannon Grady showing great hustle and midfielder Riyan Renz showing her versatility by stepping in as sweeper and holding the defense strong.

Pacifica Pioneers 4
Sonoma Valley 1

The Pioneers midfield controlled this game from the start, and the Sonoma team could hardly move the ball down field. Slonne Bleyle had some lovely touches on the ball, and Dahlia Rodriguez was a playmaker moving the ball up field. The Pioneers scored four goals in the first half with an early goal by midfielder Julia Rodriguez, two from Smith, and one from Wilson. Kierra Kessler and Diana Lopez kept up the pressure on the Sonoma team's goal, ensuring a Pioneers win despite the one goal against them late in the game.

Pacifica Pioneers 0
Pleasanton Rage 0

This was the toughest game by far. Although the Pioneers put continual pressure on the Rage, they could not put one in the net. Katie Hall, Ariana Crame and Sophia Montenegro were all over the midfield with great shots on goal. The defense held the Rage to a 0:0 tie, with Veronica Alberts repeatedly clearing the ball and Madison Gomes showing her savvy defensive strategy. Even with the tie, the Pioneers had the highest final score in their bracket and will advance to play in the quarter finals on January 18 in Morgan Hill.

Pacifica UnitedÕs Pioneers take the Coppa d'Oro Tournament

Coaches Mauricio Rodriguez & Mike Wilson have their 11 year old girls playing at a very high level. The Pioneers are a realatively new team that has jelled from the beginning. Watching this young girls team practice is as impressive as watching them win tournament after tournament. Way to go!

The Pacifica United Soccer Club Pioneers dominated every game in the Redwood City Coppa D'Oro Tournament, bringing home the championship trophy with no goals scored against them.
Game 1
Pioneers 1
Stanford Firestorm 0
The Pioneers came on strong in game one, as midfielders Kiera Kessler and Katie Hall moved the ball up the sides, allowing forward Maren Smith to score right before the half. Defenders Shannon Grady, Hayley Chawke, and Veronica Alberts then held off the Firestorm for the win.

Game 2
Pioneers 0
West Valley Strikers 0
The Pioneers were on the aggressive in this game, but were scoreless despite multiple shots on goal. Midfielders Julia and Dahlia Rodriguez dominated center field, and goalie Sofia Montenegro and defender Madison Gomes controlled the back end with several big saves, keeping the Strikers scoreless for the tie.

Game 3
Pioneers 1
Alpine Raptors 0
The Pioneers were up to the challenge in this physical game. The midfielders refusing to be pushed off the ball by the Raptors, and with Diana Lopez and Slonne Bleyle showing fierce skills to come up with the ball. Forward Emma Wilson scored right before the half, and the Pioneers were flawless in the second half to hold onto the win.
CHAMPIONSHIP GAME

Pioneers 1
Redwood City Juventus Thunder 0
The Pioneers dominated the championship game, played in the cold and pouring rain against arch rivals Juventus Thunder. Riyan Renz was all over the ball in the midfield, allowing Ariana Crame to nail down the winning goal. The Pioneers defense then held the Thunder at bay, securing the championship.

An ÒIncrediblesÓ Road to the Championship

PUSC U14 Girls
Take Title in REDWOOD LEAGUE

GREAT JOB GIRLS!

Front Row L to R
Caroline Martinez, Rene Sweeney, Alyssa Shores, Ashley Garcia, Brittney Lewis, Bri McAlexander, Nicole Downing, Sara Bradford.

The PUSC Incredibles needed to win their last two games to win the Redwood League championship. They traveled down to Palo Alto to play the tough Stanford Lightning. In the rain the Incredibles came out a little slow. The lightning scored 1st to make 1-0. The Incredibles came right back with Bonnie Corbelli blasting a corner kick into the box to a streaking Dominique Gio who headed the ball into the back of the net for the tie. The tie was broken when Elizabeth Smith blasted in a penalty kick for a 2-1 lead. The Lightning came right back to tie the score. With minutes to play in the 1st half Bonnie Corbelli kick in a penalty kick for a 3-2 lead.

The defense took over the 2nd half. Caroline Martinez, Alex Gomes, Madison Gould, Chiara Lewis, Rene Sweeney, who had the flu were relentless in their defensive play. Keeper Brittney Lewis made some tough save to secure the win.

The next day brought in the other Palo Alto team to Pacifica. This tough team had given up only 4 goals all season and was a big physical team. The Incredibles couldn't match their size but excelled in the speed department. Ashley Garcia started off by flying pass the Palo Alto defense and just missed a shot. Seeing Ashley's speed was going to be a problem for them they pulled back their defense around her. One thing the Palo Alto team failed to realize is that the Incredibles have a loaded roster of talented players. Palo Alto scored the 1st goal of the game. Minutes later Dominique Gio headed in a corner kick to tie the game. This fired up the Incredibles. Taylor Gaggero then blasted a shot that the Palo Alto keeper just deflected away for a corner kick. This is where Alyssa Shores took over the game. Alyssa headed in a corner kick for a 2-1 lead. Midfielder's Shannon Mooney, Bri McAlexander, Sara Bradford kept the ball away from Palo Alto for the remainder of the 1st half.

The 2nd half was all Shores. She scored (3) 2nd half goals. The 1st goal coming on a Corbelli penalty kick, which Shores headed in. The 2nd coming off a crossing pass from Mooney, which Shores knocked the keeper out of the way. The 3rd coming off a crossing pass from Gio which Shores just had to tap in. The defense was just as good limiting the Palo Alto team to just a few harmless shots.

The whistle blew and the U14 Girls - Incredibles were Champions of the Redwood League.

The Pacifica United Strikers, Girls U12 team are Champions at the Davis Shootout

Game #1

Pacifica Strikers 3
Redding United 2

The Strikers played a very strong Redding United and this may have been the Strikers most impressive game of the tournament. This fast paced game was played evenly with both sides racing up and down the field with good defense preventing either from scoring. A good combination of passes from Crystal Patten, to Sarah Walley who crossed to the attacking Jessica Parque, blasted to the corner for the lead.
Halftime Strikers 1, Redding 0.

This game was even more intense in the second half as Redding answered with 2 goals to take the lead. The Strikers came back to level the game after a great give and go combination between Taylor Russell and Parque, who expertly finished. 2-2. Just when it seemed that the game would be tied, another combination of passes from the sharp Russell and Fiona Benjamin and onto Coralie Ringuette who hit the corner of the net for the winner. This was a wonderful team performance and was the most exciting game of the tournament.

FINAL SCORE - Strikers 3 Redding 2

Game #2

Pacifica Strikers 3
Roseville Spirit 0

The Strikers played the Roseville Spirit and the game was played in extremely hot conditions. Both teams struggled in the first half and it was tied 0 - 0 at the half. The Strikers came out strong in the second half and Coralie Ringuette got the first goal to settle the team. The Strikers back line of Madison Kavanaugh, Skye Hammer, Sara Acquisti, Jordan Kotlar and Francis DeFreitas were great for all games. DeFreitas really impressed with her speed and skill, mopping up any balls that got through. The unstoppable Pargue got the second goal and Jordan Kotlar expertly connected with a free kick from 25 yards which went in off the post for the final score.

FINAL SCORE - Strikers 3 Roseville 0

Game #3

Pacifica Strikers 1
Folsom Arsenal 1

The Strikers needed either a win or a tie to advance to the Championship game. This game was a nail biter and both defenses dominating the play. The midfield play of Lina Miller was most impressive as she got the better of the exchanges with the Arsenal's top player and effectively marked her out of the game. The Arsenal team took the lead off a well-placed corner kick which was deflected to the net.
Halftime. Strikers 0 Arsenal 1

The second half was again played fairly evenly with few chances falling to either team. The halfback line of Lina Miller, Brianna Falk, Taylor Russell, Fiona Benjamin, Sarah Walley and Sara Acquisti played well to complement the full back line and not allow any further scores. Coralie Ringuette, Vanessa Kibblewhite and Jessica Parque kept up the heat in the forward line and were rewarded when the Arsenal full back, under pressure, cleared the ball across her own goal, which was also deflected into the net for the tying score.

FINAL SCORE - Strikers 1 Folsom Arsenal 1

Championship Game

Pacifica Strikers 3
Carson City Element 1

The final game was definitely the easiest match of the weekend as the Strikers controlled the game from start to finish. The Pacifica girls bombarded the goal but were unable to get it in the net. Just as it seemed that the soccer Gods were against us, Parque broke through and scored the opening goal to give the Strikers the halftime lead 1-0. The Strikers continued their dominance on the restart and were rewarded when Parque broke through the defense, faked the goalkeeper and scored, to lead 2-0. The Carson City girls got back in the game against the run of play when one of their few attacks resulted in a goal. The Strikers answered with a scorching run by Vanessa Kibblewhite down the right wing, made a perfect cross to Taylor Russell who buried it in the net for the insurance goal.

CHAMPIONSHIP Final score - Strikers 3 Carson City 1

PUSC BLAZE WIN 2008 SILICON VALLEY CUP

The Pacifica Blaze girls U18 soccer team had their work cut out for them this when they traveled to Morgan Hill Soccer Complex for the Class One Silicon Valley Cup Tournament. The games went as follows:

Game 1 Santa Cruz Breakers 0 Blaze 0

Not only did Santa Cruz win this Tournament last year but they won it going away in the fashion of a 7-1 mauling in the championship game. The Blaze started slow in this game seeming to get pushed around some in the beginning but by the time half time rolled around the Blaze began to feel their stride. The Blaze defense was fired up from the get go being particularly strong up the middle where Monique Rescino, Meranda Bradley, Athena Crist, Marissa Benson, Laura Walley and Joanna McDougal were conquering everything coming their way. A breakaway later almost netted one for the Blaze but to no avail. Both teams held on for a super hard fought blue collared tie.

Game 2 Fremont Crash 0 Blaze 1

This was a game that would have made the USA Rugby association proud, a very tough match. The Blaze came out steaming. Both teams had limited shots but the Blaze with just seconds left in the game scored when Crist blasted one off the goal which was quickly followed up by the opportunist Jackie Alas for the winner just as the whistle blew.

Game 3 Phantom Nemesis 1 Blaze 1

A lot depended on this game and the way it looked at the time, this was a game that the Blaze really needed to do well in if they had a chance to move on. Things donÕt always turn out the way one expects and this would be the case in this game. The Blaze dominated this contest and scored first on the perfect pass from Bradley to Jacques. However Jacques wasnÕt done as she put a nifty spin move on the defender to get off a laser for the score. After missing chance after chance, the Blaze as they say were letting the Nemesis Òhang aroundÓ and hang around they did to the tune of a tying goal and thatÕs how it ended. Kayla Sokolowski showed her prowess by being all around the ball in numerous situations.

Game 4 Palo Alto 0 Pacifica Blaze 2

A little help from another would-be spoiler on an adjacent field wouldnÕt hurt but if the Blaze were to move on to a championship game they pretty much needed to concentrate on winning this game. Destiny was in their hands and they most certainly stepped up to the plate and beat the team that had been dominating the tournament thus far. A beautiful goal from Megan Davis early in the 2nd half put the Blaze on the board. A while later Haley Humphrey made a switch across the field to an overlapping Alas who broke away and left-ed one over the goalieÕs head for a 2-0 final.

Exceptional defense the whole tourney especially this game by Rescino & Walley and Goalie Christina Shreiner played such an important role. This win put the Blaze in the Championship game the next day.

Championship Game-Blaze Win 5-4 in Overtime Shootout over PA Blue

One couldnÕt write a better script for this game but in a nutshell the Blaze scored the first two goals of the game- one by Jacques and another by Joanna McDougal off a corner kick. The PA Blue team who stunned the Blaze by tying the score by the half matched these two goals. But when the PA Blue put in their 3rd straight goal after the half the Blaze went from shocked to disbelief. Now down 3-2 the Blaze unbelievably reached down and poured in two more goals. One on a header from Janice Garcia off a corner kick and the other on the most beautiful free kick from Bradley from 20 yards out. Incredibly and to their credit PA Blue scored the equalizer at the whistle to send the game to overtime. After two 10-minute overtimes the score remained tied and the game had now evolved into a shootout. As both teams alternated shots the Blaze found themselves tied 4-4 with only one shooter in the contest left. An earlier miss by a Blue player put destiny in the hands of Òcool as IceÕ Claire Ishizaki. Claire stepped up to the line and literally buried it! The house came down! This game had a whole season of ups & downs all in one game. Congratulations Blaze!

The PUSC Incredibles U 14 girls traveled to Fort Bragg to play in the 2008 Spookfest Tournament.

Playing without two of their starting forwards, Dominique Gio (injured) & Taylor Gaggero (illness), the Incredibles substitutes stepped up and help lead the team to it's first tournament win this year.

Game #1 Incredibles (2) vs Red Bluff Shooting Stars (0)

In the 1st game against the Red Bluff Shooting Stars Alyssa Shores scored the games 1st goal when she received a crossing pass from Ashley Garcia, which Alyssa blasted into the net. The defense of Madison Gould, Bonnie Corbelli, Sophia Mack, Caroline Martinez & Chaira Lewis controlled the ball for most of the game. When the ball did get by them, Keeper Brittney Lewis was there to gobble up the ball. In the 2nd half Ashley received a pass from Sara Bradford that sent her on a break away. Ashley pushed it into the back of the net for a 2-0 lead. The defense held tough for their 1st win.

Game #2 Incredibles (1) vs Annadel Rush (0)

After a nice long break the Incredibles came out fast against the Rush from Annadel. Bri McAlexander and Nicole Downing just missed shots. The Rush then clamped down on the IncredibleÕs attack and pressured our defense. The defense held tough and midfielder's Shannon Mooney and Rene Sweeney were all over the field helping to stop the Rush attack. After a scoreless 1st half, the Incredibles were still having a tough time mounting an offensive scheme. With 5 minutes to play Ashley blasted in a shot to break the tie. The Rush came back with a vengeance, but keeper Brittney Lewis blocked so many shots, she was dripping of sweat by games end. The whistle blew and the Incredibles had their 2nd win.

Game #3 Incredibles (1) vs Vacaville Thunderbirds (0)

Getting only a 90 minute break from the last game, the Incredibles had another tough team to deal with. The Thunderbirds with their fast forwards put tons of pressure on the Incredibles defense. Caroline Martinez now hurting from a sprained ankle, defenders Chiara Lewis, Bonnie, Sophia & Madison shut down the Thunderbirds. Needing a goal to break a 0-0 tie, Bri McAlexander applied the pressure on the Thunderbird defense and with 5 minutes to play she sent a go pass up to the streaking Ashley Garcia, who blasted in a shot for a 1-0 lead and their 3rd shutout win in a row.

Game # 4 Incredibles (1) vs Santa Rosa Sun Rays (0)

Sunday brought on the Sun Rays from Santa Rosa, who had also won their 1st three games. The winner would play in the championship. After seeing Dr. Ross, the Incredibles got back Caroline Martinez, but lost Rene Sweeney to a back injury. Defense again was the name of the game. Both teams had their chances to score, but were turned away by some great keeper play by both teams. Midfielder's Nicole Downing, Sara Bradford and defender Chiara Lewis kept pushing the ball up to the offense. Again with minutes left in the game Elizabeth Smith made some great moves to get clear of three defenders and blast in shot for a 1-0 lead. Keeper Brittney made some great saves at the end to preserve to win and a trip to the championship game.

Championship Game Incredibles (1) vs Windsor Hot Steal (0)

In a game in which both team have great defenses, it was the Incredibles offense that controlled most of the game. The Incredibles scored two 1st half goals that were taken away by some questionable calls by the referee. This didn't deter the girls, who kept putting pressure on the Hot steal keeper who stopped at least 10 1st half shots. But the Incredibles have a pretty good keeper themselves in Brittney Lewis who stopped 10 shots of her own. But forwards Ashley Garcia, Rene Sweeney and Alyssa Shores were relentless. They hit everything but the net, but the 1st half ended in a 0-0 tie.

The 2nd half was a mirror of the 1st. Nicole Downing, Shannon Mooney just missed shots on goal. The defense stood fast and the continued their attacks. With one minute to play, Elizabeth Smith took a throw in from 20 yards away and put it on the chest of Ashley Garcia, who trapped it over to Alyssa Shores, who blasted in the game winning shot. The Hot Steal tried to come back, but Sara Bradford stole the ball and sent it away from the goal. The whistle blew and the Incredibles were CHAMPS. The Incredibles won all five games and were not scored upon. We would like to thank Coaches Mike Lewis and Dave Downing for their great work with girls and Dr. Ross McAlexander in getting the wounded back on the field.

US Soccer Club News

Incredibles take 3rd place in

Soccer By The Bay.

The PUSC Incredibles played a fantastic weekend of soccer in San Mateo winning three of four games.

The 1st game the Incredibles faced the tough Gale Force from Monterey, Ca. The game was a defensive battle. Both teams played great defense to fend off the other teams high powered offense. Defenders Bonnie Corbelli, Madison Gould, Caroline Martinez and Sophia Mack were awesome. The Gale Force scored with 2 seconds on the clock for a 1-0 win. Keepers Chiara Lewis and Brittney Lewis made some amazing saves, but just missed the last one. This lost could have upset a normal team but not the Incredibles.

In the 2nd game against the Freedom of Folsom, Ca. the Incredibles were quickly on the board 1st. when Ashley Garcia scored her 1st of many goals in goals in the tournament. Passing from Dominique Gio provided the spark the team needed. Ashley scored 2 more goals for a hat trick. The Freedom came back to score, but Bri McAlexander blasted in a shot to make it 4-1. Controlling the middle of the field to set up these scoring opportunities were Elizabeth Smith, Sara Bradford, and Shannon Mooney. Keepers Brittney Lewis and Chiara Lewis shut the door and preserved a 4-1 win.

Sunday brought out the best in the girls. Needing to win by a 3-0 score to advance in the tournament, they faced the Extreme from San Jose. The Incredibles blew away the Extreme 6-0. Goals by Ashley and Bri in the 1st half set the tone of the game. Dominique again made some great passes to set up the goals. The Incredibles 2nd half play was to die for. Alyssa Shores made a great crossing pass to a charging Taylor Gaggero, who blasted into the net. The ball never touched the ground. Ashley then scored 2 more goal for another hat trick. The last goal came on a great left footed shot by Nicole Downing. Keeper Brittney Lewis big kicks set the forwards on many fast breaks and kept the Extreme offense away from the net.

The win put them into the consolation game against the San Mateo Mania. The Mania a good fast team was a big challenge for the girls. But it was the defense again that stepped up. All the defenders held the Mania down until the Incredibles offense got it going. Dominique again made some great passes to free up Ashley on break away's down the field. Ashley scored 2 more goals giving her 6 for the tournament. With a 2-0 lead Defender Rene Sweeney and midfielder Alex Gomes teamed up on the left side of the field and shut the Mania down in the 2nd half. Keeper Brittney Lewis collected her 2nd shutout in a row and the Incredibles took 3rd place in this very tough tournament. Great Coaching By Mike Lewis & Dave Downing.

The Pacifica United Strikers, Girls U12

team take 2nd

at the Tiburon/Mill Valley tournament on August 23/24

Game #1. The Strikers played West Marin United and the poor field conditions made it difficult for both teams to control the ball. The Strikers defense kept their opponents from getting any shots at goal but the United defense somehow held the Striker from scoring before Fiona Benjamin got the deciding goal to win 1-0.

Game#2. The Strikers played the Heritage Revolution in the make or break game in the group as both teams had won their first game. The Strikers came out strong and put pressure on the Revolution throughout the game before Fiona Benjamin again got the Strikers first goal. Benjamin broke down the right wing, got behind the full back and made a perfect cross to Jessica Parque who expertly finished to make it 2-0. Parque scored her second, with an assist from the unstoppable Benjamin to make it 3-0 at the half.
The Strikers kept on coming with halfback, Brianna Falk blasting to the net from a cross from Parque. Taylor Russell got in the action but her shot hit the crossbar and Coralie Ringuette had several chances before Parque completed her hat-trick to make it 5-0.

Game #3. The Strikers played the Tiburon Sharks needing only 1 goal to advance to the Championship match. They were not to be denied as Parque opened the scoring. Coralie Ringuette scored from a breakaway from midfield and Sarah Walley scored off a rebound. Sara Acquisti closed out the scoring off a perfect corner kick from Jordan Kotlar. Final score 4-0.

Game #4. The Championship game against the more experienced and stronger Mustang Mavericks was a great game played in scorching heat. The Strikers created many more chances than their opponents but were unable to beat the Mavericks goalkeeper. The best scoring chance fell to Parque who broke into the box and the oncoming keeper appeared to take the forward down but the referee saw it differently. The Striker defense were superb and the half line of Crystal Patten, Lina Miller, Sarah Walley, Coralie Ringuette, Brianna Falk and Taylor Russell stopped many attacks at the half line. Katelyn Brown in goal made it look easy with her good positioning to cut off any shots at goal. Full time 0-0.
The game continued with 2, five minute extra time halves but neither team could break the tie. The Striker defense of Sara Acquisti, Frances DeFreitas,Jordan Kotlar and Madison Kavanaugh didnÕt give up any goals in the 4 games played.

The game was eventually decided with the Mavericks winning 2-1 on a penalty shootout. This was another outstanding showing by the Strikers and congratulations on taking 2nd place.

Pacifica United Internationals U 12 boys take the next step to Cohesion

The US Soccer Club held its 2008 Soccer by the Bay tournament down in San Mateo, CA and the Pacifica United Internationals were there to gain experience in this tournament environment. As is the case with any new, team there were growing pains. Many of the players on the Internationals have been away for the summer and this was the first time they had a chance to play together.

The first game was against San Mateo United 96 and they were competitive in their 3-1 defeat. Daniel Hazelhoffer was the offensive stand-out showcasing his break-a-way speed, scoring the only International goal of the game in a 3-1 loss.

The second game against the Folsom Vipers had several defensive breakdowns yielding a 6-2 defeat. Able and Gabriel Campos (cousins), and new team members, capitalized with scoring opportunities for the Internationals. They both showed the determination and passion that this team needs to progress to the next level.

SundayÕs game three against SACYSL Barcelona was an adjustment game for the Pacifica United Internationals. Having many new players who had not practiced with the team for the summer and playing at unfamiliar positions caused the boys to have a difficult time adjusting to this high level of competition. Barcelona displayed the discipline, focus, teamwork and physical requirements to compete at this level.
Barcelona 8, Pacifica 0

The team will hopefully get a better idea of what it takes to be successful as a tournament team. We are looking forward to hard work, dedication and growth from the Pacifica United Soccer Club - InternationalÕs. The teams new cheer is ÒWork Hard!Ó and thatÕs what itÕll take from everyone on the team to grow together as a unit.

Special recognition should be acknowledged to players - Jordan Alcazar, Gabriel Campos, Chris Harrison, Able Campos, Daniel Hazelhoffer, Ryan McGannon and Bennie Dawson for showing the grit and determination of spirited warriors even when behind on the score board. WeÕre hoping their energy will spread throughout the rest of the team.

Incredibles take 2nd in Coast Cup 2008

The PUSC U-14G Pacifica Incredibles took 2nd in their home tournament. They started the tournament in fine fashion with a 3-0 win over the Crossfire from Concord. Ashley Garcia scored the 1st goal when she put in a crossing pass from Taylor Gaggero. Ashley scored again when she took a go pass from Madison Gould and put it in for a 2-0 lead. Elizabeth Smith then headed in a corner kick for the final score. Great defense from Bonnie Corbelli, Sophie Mack, and Caroline Martinez kept the Crossfire at bay. Keepers Rene Sweeney and Chiara Lewis stopped all shots to preserve the shutout.

In the 2nd game of the day the Incredibles took on the 2xtreme from Shingle Springs, Ca. and shut them out 2-0. Shannon Mooney quick pass to a streaking Taylor Gaggero, who then blasted in the 1st goal of the game. The 2nd score came when Ashley took off on a breakaway and blasted the shot pass the 2xtreme keeper. The 2extreame tried to mount an attack, but were turned away by midfielders, Sara Bradford, Bri McAlexander, and Nicole Downing . The defense also played great in completing their 2nd shut out in a row.

The Nightmare from Chico, Ca. were next. They had won their first two games of the tournament. The winner of this game would move onto the championship game. The Incredibles struck first when Brittney Lewis stole the ball and sent a crossing pass over to Elizabeth Smith who found a wide open Dominique Gio, who blasted in a shot for a 1-0 lead. The Nightmare came back fast but Madison, Bonnie, and Chiara shut them down with great defense. The Incredibles scored again when Alyssa Shores crossed a pass over to Ashley, who blasted in her 4th goal of the tournament and a 2-0 halftime lead. In the 2nd half the Nightmare came out on fire, blasting shot after shot at the Incredibles net, but keeper Brittney Lewis made some spectacular saves to keep them off the score board. The defense held and the Incredibles were in the championship game.

The Big and Bad Panthers from Sacramento were the opponents. This powerful team beat the Incredibles in an earlier tournament. The Panthers came out fast and scored minutes into the game. The Incredibles came back fast and shots by Dominique, Elizabeth, and Taylor just missed the mark. The defense played hard, but just before half the Panthers scored again for a 2-0 lead. The 2nd half was like the first the panthers scored 2 more goals for a 4-0 lead. The Incredibles came close when Bonnie blasted a corner kick into the box where Sara blasted it pass the keeper, but a defender put up her hand to stop the ball from going into the net. A missed call was just another knife in the Incredibles back. The whistle blew and the Panthers had defeated the Incredibles 4-0. Thanks to coach Dave Downing and Mike Lewis for getting the girls ready to play.

PACIFICA COAST CUP KICKS OFF U12 BOYS @ ORTEGA

The Pacifica United Internationals Come Up Short

(with players and score)

But the Future Looks Very Bright

Game1
The Pacifica United Internationals started the annual Coast Cup against a strong Benicia Arsenal squad. The Internationals played shorthanded 9 v11 but showed the heart of determined competitors. With the mist falling, the Arsenal came out strong and scored four unanswered first half goals against the under-manned local team.

The second half was a different story. The defense of the Internationals tightened and goalie Karl Brown made several good saves. The offense lead by Ryan McGannon and Daniel Hazelhofer finally started getting opportunities to move the ball down the field. After intercepting a pass, McGannon got a break up the left side and made a very good centering pass to James Arjas who was able to place the ball in the right corner of the net for the Internationals first score. Moments later Hazelhofer broke free on a breakaway and hustled past the last defender to send a blast past the diving Benicia goalie for the second score. The Internationals kept the offensive pressure on but were unable to get the ball in the net for the remainder of the game.

Final Score
Pacifica Internationals 2
Benicia Arsenal 4

International Forwards Daniel hazelhofer and Ryan Mcgannon try to break up the middle

International Forwards Daniel Hazelhofer and Ryan McGannon try to break up the middle against Danville Mustang Galaxy

Game 2
Presented additional challenges to the Pacifica United Internationals by losing one more player and going 8 v 11 against a strong Danville Mustang Galaxy team that was very impressive in their first contest. The boys started the game with spirits high and held their opponent scoreless for the first part of the game. But the effects of the hard fought battles playing handicapped took its toll. The Mustangs scored five unanswered goals, but it wasnÕt because the boys eased up. They left it on the field and should be proud of their efforts. It will be very interesting to see this group with a full roster in the fall. This is a very athletic squad with very good potential. With a little technical and fundamental training this group should be able to compete with anyone in their division. Stay tuned for some exciting play from the Internationals.

Final Score
Mustangs 5
Internationals 0

Game 3
Sunday brought beautiful weather and the return of Zack Duffy, who was away on vacation until today. The Internationals remained short on players but played 9 v 11 against a very aggressive Pleasanton Ballistic team. The boys gave a game effort but the lack of players and execution yielded the same results.

Final Score
Ballistics 8
International 0
